Why…Star Wars: Episode I-The Phantom Menace?
Ok, so recently I’ve been getting into Star Wars, and just today I watched The Phantom Menace for the first time. I really like it, although I wasn’t too fond of Natalie Portman as Queen Padme Amidala. She was just very…very bland. Although, it isn’t Portman’s role that I hear is criticized… How come Jake Lloyd has so many people who hate that he was portrayed as young Anakin Skywalker? I think he did an excellent job for such a young kid. I mean, I liked his acting much better than Daniel Radcliffe’s in the first couple Harry Potter movies. Lloyd seemed very enthusiastic in his role, he was my favorite character along with Obi-Wan Kenobi. So why are so many people against Lloyd as young Skywalker?

Oh, and also I’m confused about how Anakin is well, Anakin. In the movie his mother said that there was no father, that she carried him, gave birth to him, and raised him, but she couldn’t explain it to Qui-Gon Jinn…How does that work? Is that cleared up in the other movies? Who is Anakin’s dad?
Dang, people don’t have to be so rude. No I am not 10, you freak. Jake Lloyd can act better than you. And yes, I am Christian didn’t really think sci-fi was related to that. Just trying to clear up what was unclear. (I assume martinthurn knows this is directed towards him).

Thanks Mark and thefattestkidukno, really apperciate it. Cleared alot up.

Well The Phantom Menace overall is a good movie, but once you see the others you will know why us Star Wars fans look down on it. It doesn’t have that "Star Wars" feeling to it. Jake Lloyd did okay in my opinion, but some parts, especially when he was podracing, he fell short of professional acting. I know he is young and for scenes like that they just use a blue screen so it might be harder for him to act, but he wasn’t up to par. And I can’t stand Natalie in any of the movies, she is just a bad actor. If you thought she was bad in this one, wait till you see Attack of the Clones. Worst acting ever. She improved for Revenge of the Sith, but she was still really bad.

They never explain what happened to his father, it turns out that in a galaxy far far away there is still dead beat fathers haha. They never reveal anything about his father. Chancellor Palpatine takes on that role.

The movies are really good, but Episode 1 and Episode 4 are the only two I didn’t like. Phantom Menace had a fill-in Sith, I felt like Lucas just threw him in there to make a movie, and it had no action. Just a lame podrace, a short battle and lightsaber fight. And A New Hope had a cruddy 1 minute fight and the stormtroopers missed every shot at a range of like 30 feet. I really liked Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

And yes some theorize that Sidious is the father by using Anakins mother as a surrogate like thefattestkidukno said, but the problem with that theory is that Palpatine killed Darth Plagueis in his sleep before he was taught how to use the force to create life. It is actually a very plausable theory that Darth Plagueis is Anakins father though.

well to the you the truth i seen all of them and there isn’t my background on luke skywalkers dad. there could be two choices but its kinda hard to firgue out who it is that and i stoped watching after 1 since two was a low rated porno to me at least. i liked three kinda but the ones i loved where 4-6.

I believe it was Lucas’ intention for the audience to assume that because Anakin’s mother is a slave she was impregnated by a former master or some other man who would not claim Anakin as his child.

There is a suspicion that Palpatine is some how Anakin’s father. In the third movie: Revenge of the Sith. Palpatine talks to Anakin and tells him that the power of the dark side and create life and destroy it. So the suspicion is that Palpatine planted Anakin in his mother. (like God did with Mary, putting Jesus in her).

As we all know, Anakin grows up and becomes the chosen one eventually in Episode 6 when he defeats the Emperor.

Portraying Anakin as not having a father, means that Anakin’s mother is representing the Virgin Mary and Anakin as Jesus, another character people refer to as the "Chosen One"

ok this isnt relative to ur ? lol but to ur other one thats closed.. maybe try 12 stones, skillet, staind… maybe too grungey than punk but pretty cool anyways :) sydmuso | Oct 11, 2009

Let me guess: 1) you are about 10 years old so you think a 10-year old actor is good, and 2) you are not Christian because you have never heard of a virgin birth.

Queen Amidala in Ep1 is SUPPOSED to be like that, at 14 years old leading a planet she has to talk like that.

Short Answer:

Lloyd was an easy target for fans who didn’t like ep I and were looking for someone to blame.

As it stands now we don’t know who the father of Anakin is … most agree that his father is the Force …

*********************************************************************************

Don’t worry about "martinthurn" … he’s grumpy like that all the time. IIRC he’s also a big Natalie Portman fan, as am I. "Nathan" is just plain wrong. "Mark" & "thefattestkidukno" … heavy on opinion very light on fact. Also the "theories" about Sidious or Plagueis have been directly debunked by Lucas himself. The truth is that the scene in ep III where Palpatine reveals himself as a Sith lord WAS originally supposed to have been him telling Anakin that not only was he a Sith lord he was also going to admit to being his father through use of the Force. Two days before the scene was shot Lucas trashed the whole scene and rewrote it to what it was in the movie. When asked why Lucas has really never given an answer to it other than "it didn’t feel right" for the story.

So as it stands now, Anakin’s birth is likened to the birth of Jesus as an "Immaculate Conception" with the "Force" as "God". It is likely to stay that way because in is part of the Prophecy of "The Chosen One" and Lucas has had problems defining this "prophecy" from day one and isn’t likely to mess with it that much in the future.

Jake Lloyd … well a lot of fans were looking for a scape goat for why they didn’t like the movie and instead of looking at themselves first like they should have they turned their dislike Jake’s way. In many ways it was because Lucas was putting a cute little face on one of the most hated, vile, and evil characters that the film industry had ever seen and it just didn’t sit will with "old school" fans. That and the fact that there were 16 years between the trilogies … many fans had already made up the story of the prequels in their heads and when the movie came out and didn’t match that story in our heads it really ticked us off. The more "mature" of us "old school" fans has realized a simple truth … it IS George’s story … not ours … George is going to tell his story not ours … although I think the movies would have been better than they were if he HAD run some of these ideas past fans … lol … those other immature fans have pointed to many "scape goats" to mask the real reason for their dislike of the prequels and Jake Lloyd has become a easy target.

As for Natalie Portman … well I feel almost like "martin…" but not as rudely as he does … In episode I she has to talk like that … the formal speak and all because she is in fact the Queen of Naboo. It was also meant to show the two sides of the character. When she is acting the "Queen Role" she has to be formal … when she is acting the "Padme Role" she acts different. That being said she did have her moments of spoiled rotten little B***h time too.

May The Force Be With You …
